THE MINISTRY OF Christ Church does not slow down during the summer season. Our calendar lists ministries that serve people seven days a week. Please read carefully all that we offer to the glory of God during the month of July. It is evidence of the fact our witness for the Gospel touches the lives of people year round.
SUMMER IS A GREAT TIME for inviting friends and family to attend church activities. Why not extend an invitation to folks you work with, neighbors on your street, new people who have moved into your community, or folks you know who do not attend any church. The church picnic is a great way to start. The fact remains . . . people attend church because they are invited.
THANK YOU . . . THANK YOU . . . THANK YOU . . . for your faithfulness at worship during the summer season. How good to know the members of Christ Church express the importance of God in their lives by being in the Lord’s house each Sunday. Your attendance each week provides all of us encouragement.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 17 is the date for the next Caravaners Trip. This group of all ages who enjoy going on one-day outings will be headed to Annapolis, MD to tour the Naval Academy, take a harbor cruise, eat at a great restaurant. Call the church office to request a reservation form or print out the one on the CARAVANERS page above Only 30 seats remain on the bus.
THE PEOPLE OF Christ Church are most generous. When we asked folks to respond to the special plea from The Philadelphia Food Bank to provide money to feed babies born into poverty, more than 30 baby food jars filled with donations were received. Thanks to all who participated. Those little food jars contained more than $___sent to the Baby Manna project. Thank you . . . thank you . . . thank you !
IF YOU ARE NOT receiving email communications from us it is because we do not have your current or correct email address. More and more of our members appreciate receiving important information regarding church life (e.g. funeral notices, etc.) this way. Please send your email address to our email address . . . clcud@libertynet.org. Thank you.

DEBORAH BROWER HAS OFFERED to be the Church Picnic Coordinator again this year. We are indebted to her for all the time she invests in this day enjoyed by hundreds of people. But Deborah can’t do it alone. At least 8 volunteers are needed to help pack the truck with supplies, set up at the picnic grounds, and lend a hand putting things away at the end of the day. Please let Deborah know of your willingness to help by calling 267-970-4153.. Thank you.
SATURDAY, JULY 1, is the date for this year’s Church Picnic. The event will be held at The Garrett-Williamson Foundation in nearby Newtown Square. Once again the hours will be from 12 N to 6 PM, allowing for extended time in the swimming pool, entertainment and games for both children and adults. Last year’s popular buffet will return, meaning all the food will be prepared in advance. All you need to do is come and enjoy the day. THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT AND ADVANCE RESERVATIONS ARE REQUESTED SO THE COMMITTEE CAN ANTICIPATE THE MENU PLANNING. ![]() MORE THAN 140 children are enrolled in our Summer Day Camp which began its 17th year on June 21. Campers ages 5 to 12 are spending 8 weeks on a CONTINENTAL CARAVAN, exploring Africa. They are engaged in academic enrichment activities, service projects, field trips, swimming, and a variety of other fun things to do.
On Sunday, July 25 Campers and their parents are invited to Christ Church for CAMP SUNDAY at the 10:30 AM service. Our younger friends will sing for us at worship, the classrooms will be open to see exhibits and displays, and a special reception will take place on the front lawn at 10 AM.
Camp also includes a special group for 13-14 year old teens. This part of our camp focuses on service-learning activities. Two days a week are devoted to sweeping streets in the neighborhood around the church, one day a week is devoted to projects for the WEED & SEED initiative, another day they assist Epiphany House in Lansdowne, and the remainder of the week is filled with other activities.

DID YOU KNOW Christ Church is now the site in Upper Darby for the US Dept. of Labor JOB CORPS recruitment information sessions? Every other Tuesday at 10 AM a representative of the JOB CORPS is here to explain the enrollment procedures and what is offered for those seeking special job training. The sessions for this month are scheduled for July 13 and 21.
TWO SPECIAL CAMPS for young people will be held at Christ Church in August after the Summer Day Camp ends. CAMP INVENTION for boys and girls in grades 1 - 6, will be held in our building August 16 - 20. This week focuses on solving real world challenges with lots of hands-on activity. 40 free scholarships are available to those who apply before July 15. The same week CAMP OPHELIA, a special experience for middle-school girls, meets at Anna’s Place. It is the award -winning program for teaching young, adolescent girls conflict resolution skills. Information is available through the church office.
THERE IS STILL TIME to enroll in ADVANCE, the new name for the program once called I-LEAD, which provides the opportunity to earn a two year college degree going to classes in the neighborhood. The name is not the only thing that has changed. The curriculum has been expanded to include Leadership Studies, Human Services, and Law & Justice. A co-hort is forming to begin studies in September. This is a great opportunity for working adults to go to school two nights a week and earn an accredited degree. Financial Aid is available. For a description brochure or enrollment information call the Upper Darby Community Outreach Corp. at 610-352-2374. An OPEN HOUSE information session will be held at Christ Church on Tuesday, July 20 at 6 PM.PASTOR DAVID, along with several other Lutheran pastors, has been invited to co-host a LANDS OF THE BIBLE PILGRIMAGE next May. The trip will begin in Egypt, go to Jordan and end in Israel. It is a rich experience for those seeking to experience being at the sites Jesus taught, performed miracles, lived and died. A descriptive brochure outlining the day by day itinerary is available by calling the church office (610) 352-1610, or can be found on the bulletin board in the Narthex.

IT IS ALWAYS A JOY when parents turn our way to have children baptized. The Lutheran Church encourages baptism of infants and most homes arrange for their child’s baptism within the first three months after birth. To assist parents and godparents in better understanding their role regarding the promises made at the baptism of a child, Christ Church provides a special conference for parents and godparents prior to the baptismal date. This session is most helpful in explaining the meaning of The Sacrament and how our congregation is eager to help parents provide a nurturing environment in which their child can grow in faith. Should you know of folks who desire to have their child baptized, please encourage them to call the church office. (610-352-1610)

WE KNOW OF at least five members of Christ Church who would like to be in worship on Sunday but lack transportation. It would mean much to them if someone would provide a ride from time to time. If you would be willing to give someone such a gift, please call the church office. The number is 610-352-1610.
MORE AND MORE PEOPLE are providing the church office with their email address. Having such information is very helpful when we need to communicate matters of importance to the congregation. If you have email please send your address to our address which is clcud@libertynet.org. Thank you.
